Terms of Service

Last updated 10 October 2026

Friends at Mahjong is run by Phatlinks.com L.L.C. (“Phatlinks”), a Florida limited liability company that trades as Mahjong Lexington. Phatlinks is at 1343 Main Street, Suite 705, Sarasota, FL 34236.

These terms cover the website at friendsatmahjong.com, the games you play on it, and anything you buy there. By using the site you agree to them.

Written against what this site actually does. If the site changes, this page changes with it.

What the site is

Friends at Mahjong is a browser-based table for American Mah Jongg — the version played across the United States, whose hands are set each year by the National Mah Jongg League. You can play against computer opponents, or with other people at a private table.

We are not affiliated with the National Mah Jongg League. The annual card is theirs; we do not sell it, and you do not need an account with them to play here.

Your account

Signing in is passwordless. You give your email address or your mobile number, we send you a code by email or by text, and entering the code signs you in. The first time you do it, that creates your account — there is no separate registration step.

You are responsible for the email address and mobile number on your account and for anyone who can read mail or texts sent to them. Tell us at support@friendsatmahjong.com if you think someone else has got in, and we will end the sessions on the account.

You may close your account at any time, with Close your account on your account page. Closing it removes your account and the games attached to it. See the Privacy Policy for what is kept and for how long.

Closing your account also ends a membership bought on this website, straight away. The rest of the period you have paid for is not refunded. If you only want the billing to stop, cancel the membership and keep the account.

Closing your account here does not close a Mahjong Lexington club account. That is a separate account, and you stay a member there.

Playing for free

Some play is free and always will be: a set number of games against the computer without a membership, and a shorter game without an account at all. The exact number is shown on the page before you start, and it is the number in force at the time you play.

Memberships

Memberships are monthly or yearly and renew automatically until you stop them. The price and the billing period are shown before you pay.

• You can cancel at any time. A membership bought on this website is cancelled from your account here; one bought in the iPhone app is cancelled with Apple (see below). Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not end the period you have already paid for — you keep the membership until that period runs out. That period is not refunded.
• Prices can change. If a price changes we will tell you before the renewal it applies to, so you can cancel first if you would rather.
• On this website, payment is taken by Stripe. We do not see or store your card number.

If a payment fails we may suspend the membership until it is settled. Your account and anything you have bought outright stay yours.

A membership that comes with a Mahjong Lexington club membership is billed and cancelled at mahjonglexington.com, not here.

Things you buy for the table

Tile sets, mats and racks are one-off purchases, not subscriptions. Buying one gives you the right to use that artwork on tables you play on, on this site and at Mahjong Lexington, for as long as those sites run. It does not transfer any ownership of the artwork itself, and it does not let you copy, redistribute or resell it.

We may retire an item from sale. If we do, it stays available to everyone who already bought it.

Buying in the iPhone app

Memberships, tile sets, racks, mats and whole tables can also be bought inside the Friends at Mahjong app for iPhone and iPad, through Apple's App Store. The price shown before you pay is Apple's, in your App Store currency. What you buy there is yours on this website too, and what you buy here works in the app.

• Apple takes the payment, from the Apple Account you are signed in with, and Apple's own terms for App Store purchases apply alongside these. We never see your payment details.
• A membership bought in the app renews automatically through Apple, at the same price and for the same period, until you cancel it. Cancel it in your Apple Account's subscription settings, at least 24 hours before it renews. It cannot be cancelled from your account on this site, because Apple is the one billing it.
• Refunds for App Store purchases are Apple's to give, and you ask Apple for one at reportaproblem.apple.com. When Apple refunds a purchase, what it bought stops working here as well.
• Closing your account here does not cancel a membership Apple bills. Cancel it with Apple first, or Apple will go on charging for it.

Fair use of the tables

Play the game as it is meant to be played. Do not use software to play for you, do not interfere with other players' games, do not try to break the site or get at other people's accounts, and do not use the chat or voice at a private table to harass anyone.

We may suspend or close an account that does these things. If we close an account for this reason we will refund the unused part of a current membership period.

Things we cannot promise

We work to keep the site up, but we do not guarantee it will be available without interruption. Games can be interrupted by a lost connection, and a table may end without a result.

The site is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from using it. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change materially affects a paid membership, we will tell members before it takes effect.
