The things people actually ask. If yours is not here, email us.

Is it really free?

Your first game against the computer is free with no account, and four more are free once you make one, with no card on file, and that is not a trial that expires. After those, a membership keeps the table open — Social is $6.99 a month and Premium $9.99, both monthly or yearly, both cancellable at any time. Prices are on the membership page.

Do I need an account?

Not to play your first game. When you do make one there is no password: you give your email address or your mobile number, we send a code to it by email or by text, and entering it signs you in. The first time you do that, the account is created — there is no separate sign-up.

Which mahjong is this?

American Mah Jongg, the National Mah Jongg League game — 152 tiles including jokers, a Charleston, and hands printed on the annual card. It is not the solitaire tile-matching game, and it is not Chinese or Riichi mahjong. If you have played rummy you already know the shape of it; the nine-chapter guide covers the rest.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. A Premium membership opens a private table, and you invite people to it with a link. Friends you invite can join using one of their free games; after that, they need a membership. There is chat, and voice, at the table.

Do I have to buy anything to play?

No. Everything in the shop is how the table looks, not how it plays. A free game and a fully dressed one deal the same tiles.

If I buy a tile set, where does it work?

On every table you play here and at Mahjong Lexington, for as long as those sites run. It is bought once, not rented, and if an item is ever retired from sale it stays available to everyone who already bought it.

How do I cancel a membership?

From your account, at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep the membership until the period you have already paid for runs out. A membership bought in the iPhone app is billed by Apple instead, and is cancelled in your Apple Account’s subscription settings. The terms set this out in full.

Do you sell the NMJL card?

No. The card is the National Mah Jongg League’s, they publish it each year, and we are not affiliated with them.
