Mahjong With Friends Online: How to Play American Mah Jongg at a Private Table

· By Friends at Mahjong

You can play American Mah Jongg with friends online at a private table at Friends at Mahjong — hosting a table is part of the Premium plan, and joining a table is part of the Social plan.

If your group wants a backup way to play when you can't meet in person, here's how to set it up in advance. Friends at Mahjong lets your existing group keep playing together remotely. Only the host needs Premium to open a table; everyone else can join on the lower-cost Social plan. Solo practice play is free first — five games total, one hand each (about 15 minutes per game), before any membership is required.

Mahjong with friends online

Friends at Mahjong supports private online tables for playing with people you already know. Depending on your membership level, you can:

  • Join a private table a friend has set up (Social plan)
  • Host your own private table (Premium plan)
  • Invite friends to that table using a link
  • Chat with your table while you play (text chat is available at the table; voice chat is a Premium feature)

How to get your group online

  1. Have the host set up a table. This step requires the host to be on the Premium plan.
  2. Send the invite link. Friends who join need at least the Social plan.
  3. Play American Mah Jongg.
  4. Chat while you play. Text chat is available at the table; voice chat is included with Premium.

Current pricing and exactly what's included at each level is listed on the membership page — worth checking before you plan a specific game night, since this isn't part of the free trial.

New to the group's online table?

If one of your regular players hasn't used Friends at Mahjong before, a guided onboarding tour walks new players through the interface and gameplay.

Make the table feel like yours

Beyond just getting everyone into the same game, Friends at Mahjong lets you personalize the table itself — mats, tiles, and racks — so your private game still feels like your group's table, not a generic default.

Ready to get your group back together? Check the membership page for current plan details, then set up your private table at Friends at Mahjong.
