Play American Mahjong Online: Practice Solo or With Friends
Friends at Mahjong is a browser table for American Mah Jongg: practice against computer opponents for free, or open a private table (Premium) and invite friends by link — no software to install.
American Mahjong Online Free Play
If you already play American Mah Jongg with a group, or you're looking for a way to practice between sessions, Friends at Mahjong gives you a table in your browser. You don't need to download anything, and you don't need to round up three other people before you can sit down and play a hand.
Your first game against the computer is free with no account required, and four more are free once you create one — no credit card on file, and the free games don't expire. Your free games are one hand each, about a quarter of an hour.
Practice Against the Computer
Friends at Mahjong lets you play American Mah Jongg against three computer-controlled opponents. This is useful when your usual group isn't available, or when you just want to run through a hand without coordinating a full table. It's the same game — the Charleston, calling tiles, building toward a hand on the card — just without needing anyone else logged in.
Play With Friends at a Private Table
When you do want other people at the table, Friends at Mahjong supports private tables for remote play. You can invite friends to join by sending them a link. Hosting a table needs a Premium membership; joining one someone else opened needs an account, plus either a membership or a free game left. That matters if your regular group is scattered across different cities, or if someone can't make it to the usual in-person game but still wants to play.
What This Actually Looks Like
You can use Friends at Mahjong for:
- Solo practice — play against the computer to practice calling tiles, reading the card, and working the Charleston, without needing a group.
- Private group play — open a table (hosting needs a Premium membership; joining one someone else opened needs an account, plus either a membership or a free game left), send the link to the people you'd normally play with in person, and play together remotely.
Both run through the same browser table. There's no separate "practice mode" app to learn before you can play with people.
Pricing and Plans
After your free games, a membership keeps the table open — plan details, what each tier includes for joining or hosting private tables, and current pricing are on the membership page. Check there before you commit to a plan.
